For everyone who helped with the 2022 Church Picnic, Thank You!
People especially loved the smashed sweet potatoes with apple topping prepared by Daryl. For those who asked for the recipe, Daryl took photos of the recipe as it appears in the Barefoot Contessa cookbook. [See attached.] I also attached a document that tells where to find the recipe on the web.

Hello all,
Please join us after church this Sunday for a simple picnic in honor of Sunday School kids, Fathers and Juneteenth!
Beverages and sandwiches provided, please bring a salad or something for dessert.  The weather should be lovely!  Maybe bring a sunhat and shades!
Hope to see you there
Darcy Stevens

Juneteenth commemorates the date—June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation and two months after the end of the Civil War—when hundreds of thousands of enslaved men and women in Texas finally learned they had been freed.

Juneteenth is an important milestone in American culture. It represents resistance, resilience, and Black Joy, which we'll talk more about soon. First, let's get to the real story behind Juneteenth because it's a story that's not told nearly enough.

The 225th General Assembly, whichbegan June 17, intends to have its "Juneteenth Worship" on Sunday.

You can learn about Juneteenth here: https://youtu.be/6FX-Iisvrj8 (Dr. Karlos K. Hill, historian, University of Oklahoma, explains "Juneteenth")

       It's a new federal holiday.

I would like to thank all who helped make our Church Fair a success!

Dear Friends,
As I write this, I'm thinking I cannot believe it's June already! Where has the time gone? Do you ever feel that way? I remember once seeing a cartoon that said time is like a toilet paper roll. The older we get the faster the roll goes around.
So here we are again. Late spring early summer and it's Pentecost time again. Pentecost, when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and refer to it as the church's birthday. If you're so inclined Acts 2:1-21 is the Scriptural reference for what happened to Peter and the disciples that day the Spirit came down and gave them a new energy. A new energy just might be the title of this week's sermon in fact.
We in the Presbyterian Church (USA) have four annual special offerings in which we collect funds for different emphases during the year. In the late Spring, early Summer, we collect the Pentecost Offering. The interesting thing about the Pentecost offering is that, like the Peace and Global Witness Offering collected in October, we're able to keep a percentage of the collected funds for local use. In the case of Pentecost we are able to keep 40% of the raised funds for the purpose of supporting youth programs in the Brookhaven area with 60% going to the Presbyterian Mission Agency again for youth..
The information we received this year outlined some of the programs that have benefited from these funds: 25% goes to Young Adult Volunteers "which trains and equips volunteers to engage in mission at 13 sites in the United States and around the world." It also assists with student loan debt (something we hear a great deal about), medical insurance, as well as providing funds for youth retreats, like the Youth Triennium; 25% supports ministries with youth ages 12-18 with programs from assisting graduating seniors in their exploration in faith, community, and vocation to creating downloads for youth ministry whether through curriculum or youth groups and daily digital devotions created strictly for youth; and finally 10% supports the "Educate a Child, Transform the World" initiative "affirmed by the 2014 General Assembly to motivate and inspire Presbyterians to better the lives of children" as they "advocate for public education that is equitable and accessible…so children may grow into the fullness of life."
I'll put a copy of the Leader's Guide" in the Gallery for your perusal if you so choose. It has Minutes for Mission, and other resource information.
"If we do a little, it adds up to a Lot!"

Shalom,
Glorya
