                          This is the 5th year we have celebrated "More Light Sunday". Old South Haven Presbyterian Church became a More Light Congregation by action of the Session on July 10, 1980. The mission of More Light  Presbyterians is "the full participation of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of faith in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The sermon title is the theme of this year's observance.

                           The readers for this year's Peace Essay Contest have made their selection of this year's winning essay (still to be announced). It is hoped that the winner will be with us this morning to read that essay and be awarded the prize.

                                         John Deitz is one of this year's honorees
                                       
                            Thursday's Child has been one of the local missions to which we have given financial support.  It is now in its 23rd year of service to the community. Its mission is to "develop, coordinate,  and to provide services to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Our summer issue of the NEWSletter will contain a feature article on this mission and our support of it.
                              General Ticket price for the Gala is $75.

Sunday, June 17    10:00am   Morning Worship

                                 Pastor Tom celebrates the 50th year of his ordination. Daryl Jordan will be with us and will sing  "Eternal Life" (The Prayer of St. Francis) which was sung at that ordination service. The choir will sing "Wings of the Dawn" at Pastor Tom's request. His niece Rachel Vione will ask the ordination  questions of her Uncle.

Pastor Tom leaves after Morning Worship for study leave, attending the 2012 Global Conference of Chaplains, at Yale University, June 24-June 29. Campus Ministers and College Chaplains from around the world will be attending.


Session Actions    (from meeting of May 21
  1. Not hold the annual church picnic this year because of the Church Reception for Pastor Tom the following week.
  2. May 27: last Sunday for Church School before Summer Break.
  3. Commence Church School in September and operate for three quarters of the year with one of three teachers responsible for a quarter.
  4. Approved switching our oil contract to Swezy’s
  5. Approved a request from The Becker Gambles Committee to use the church for another recital on April 27, 2013.
  6. Hear a report from the Peace Essay readers that they have chosen a winning essay, and if the student is available to schedule the reading of the essay and awarding the prize on Sunday, June 10.
  7. Heard a report from Mission/Outreach that each of the local missions we support will be described, one at a time, in the issues of our NEWSletter beginning with Thursday’s Child.
  8. Next issue (the summer issue) of the NEWSletter will be  published at the end of June. Articles are now being received.

A prospective groom was conferring with his pastor about the wedding. He related that the father-in-law to be had asked him, “Young man, can you support a family?” The groom-to-be answered, “Well, no, I was just planning to support your daughter. The rest of you will have to fend for yourselves.”
