This Week at Old South Haven Church

Update from Sunday's Prayer List:
I spoke to Debbie Mayo by phone on Monday morning. She was released from the hospital on Sunday night. She said she feels some soreness but otherwise is doing well. She thanked the congregation for their prayers.Debbie's car was struck by a truck in front of St. James Episcopal Church has she was making a trip home to pick up milk for our Coffee hour. Her car was totaled and she was taken to the emergency room at Brookhaven Hospital.
I have been total that Bob Baum, who had been a patient at Brookhaven Hospital over the weekend was expected to be released at the beginning of this week.

This Week at Old South Haven Church

A note from Pastor Tom
Upon my return home after our Church Picnic last Sunday I received two e mails from friends speaking about the mass shooting at a Orlando Florida Nightclub. I quickly turned on the TV and received the horrible details. The next day our Presbyterian Church (USA) released a prayer, one paragraph of which I am including in this weekly e mail.

"God of life, whose presence sustains us in every circumstance,
As the sound of gunfire echoes across Orlando
we seek the grounding power of your love and compassion.
We open our hearts in anger, sorrow and hope:
For those who have been lost: brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends
Your children, enjoying an evening of music and friendship,
Whose lives were ended or maimed in a hail of hatred and gunfire.
We pray for those who have been spared and those whose lives are changed forever
that they may find solace, sustenance, and strength in the hard days to come.
                                                         .......
open our eyes, break our hearts,
and turn our hands to the movements of your Spirit,
that our  anger and sorrow may unite in service to build a reign of peace,
where the lion and the lamb may dwell together,
and terror no longer hold sway over our common life.
In the name of Christ, our healer and our Light, we pray. Amen
