This week at Old South Haven Churdh

This Week at Old South Haven            November 29, 2019
A Prayer for this Thanksgiving Day
Father Mother God, thank You for Your presence during the hard and mean days. For then we have You to lean upon. Thank You for Your presence during the bright and sunny days, for then we can share that which we have with those who have less. And thank You for Your Presence during the Holy Days, for then we are able to celebrate You and our families and our friends. For those who have no voice, we ask You to speak. For those who feel unworthy, we ask You to pour Your love out in waterfalls of tenderness. For those who live in pain, we ask You to bathe them in the river of Your healing. For those who are lonely, we ask You to keep them company. For those who are depressed, we ask You to shower upon them the light of hope. Dear Creator, You the borderless sea of substance, we ask You to give to all the world that which we need most—Peace. Amen        -Maya Angelou

Members and Friends—
One of the realities of interim ministry is that when the work of transition is done one leaves people and a congregation which one has come to love. When I came to serve here at Old South Haven I also knew that when I came to the end of my work with you I intended to retire, to move into a new phase of my life. As with all such transitions there is planning and timing involved. Though I had hoped to be with you until a new pastor was ready to begin serving it is now no longer possible. With our daughter, who is going to join our household, we began looking for a home that met our requirements. And we also tried to determine the amount of time it would take to sell our own home here on Long Island. We have found a new home in West Milford, New Jersey. And, quite to our surprise, we had a buyer for our home here on Long Island almost immediately.
Therefore, I informed Session at its November meeting that Sunday, January 12th will be my final Sunday with you. I will miss this resilient community of faith and everyone I have come to know in my time with you. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you in your time of transition. I believe that you have done the work needed in your time of transition and are ready to move into your future and that you have much to offer and work still to do.

This week at Old South Haven Churdh

This Week at OSH         --         November 7, 2019

Members and Friends -

Last Sunday thirty people came together to view the film,TRIGGER: The Ripple Effect of Gun Violence, here at OSH. It was a moving and stark reminder that long after the attention of the media moves on families, friends and communities continue to live with the devastation those few minutes of horror unleashed on their lives. We, as one said, do not need more 'heroes.' those left in the aftermath who become advocates. We need everyday people fortunate enough not to be part of the tragedy of gun violence to speak up and say there has to be a better, more responsible way to bring an end to gun violence in our lives. What comes next is action be it as simple as letter writing or as direct as participating in vigils and demonstrations. We need to light candles and pray for victims. But, wouldn't it be better to work for a time when those vigils were no longer needed.

Want to know more. . .Do more?
If you missed seeing the film we have a copy, just ask.
