Old South Haven Presbyterian Church

11th Sunday After Pentecost

Sunday Worship has been cancelled for this Sunday, August 22.
There will be a Zoom GATHERING at 10:30AM with prayers, scripture, and sharing.
The login for the Zoom meeting starts at 10:15 AM

Dear Members and Friends of Old South Haven Church,

Live church is cancelled this Sunday because of the storm.

We will try to have a Zoom service at 10:30 AM.  The link is below and the bulletin is attached.  As I said we will try. It all depends on electricity and/or internet.

Hopefully, we will see each other on Zoom tomorrow ; but if not, please be safe.

Dear Friends,

I received this email this morning from the PCUSA:

"The scale of the disaster facing Haiti after the Aug. 14 earthquake is becoming clearer. The quake and its aftershocks have left almost 1,300 people dead*, thousands more injured and an unknown number of people are still missing. At least 13,000 homes were destroyed and roads, bridges and communication systems have been severely damaged. This catastrophe comes on top of Haiti's ongoing struggles with endemic hunger and poverty, COVID-19 and continuing civil unrest, and as Tropical Storm Grace bears down on the region.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is providing emergency relief and short-term recovery in the impacted areas through our established local partners and in collaboration with ACT Alliance and its members. The PC(USA), through PDA and together with regional World Mission colleagues, will remain active throughout the entire recovery process, accompanying our partners in the area as they determine long-term program needs and providing financial support for rebuilding and resilience.
The needs for the response will be great. God's people are once again called on to stand in the "GAP" — Give. Act. Pray."

*as I write this 1,900 people have died and over 6000 are injured

As I mentioned on Sunday, to make matters even worse rains from Tropical Storm Fred hit the island on Saturday night and Sunday-Monday Tropical Storm Grace dropped approximately 10 inches of rain on the island both contributing to mudslides making recovery efforts much more difficult.
Your Lenten gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing, of which Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is one entity, is again at work. Also, PDA folks are on site working in conjunction with World Mission as extra hands-on-deck. If you wish to contribute funds you may do so online, by phone at (800) 872-3283, or by check, mailed to Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), P.O. Box 643700, Pittsburgh, PA 15264-3700.
Prayers, not only for those providing rescue but to those who've lost loved ones and those injured, are always needed. Therefore, I offer the following prayer from the Book of Common Worship for your consideration:
God of the ages, you have always been faithful to your people. Come to us now, we pray! Give comfort and courage to those who are suffering. Give strength and skill to those who are working to save and to heal. Give us your peace that passes all understanding in these moments of shock and sorrow, and open our eyes, hearts, and hands to the movements of your Spirit, that we might be comforted and comfort others in the name of Christ, our healer and our light. Amen.

Shalom,
Glorya
