This Week at Old South Haven Presbyterian Church

Old South Haven Presbyterian Church
Brookhaven, NY 11719
March 14, 2021

Dear Members and Friends of Old South Haven Church,

I am again inviting you to join us this Sunday for our Church Service on Zoom.  The details for joining the service are below.  The Bulletin and Prayer Concerns are attached as well as information about the Great Hour of Sharing offering. Pastor Glorya's sermon topic is:  "A New Covenant.  A new Contract.  A Chance to Change."

Please note that the church is hoping to have a Church and Vendor Sale on May 29th.  Please mark your calendars.

Also, the Church Reopening Committee is working on opening the church safely. (See Pastor Glorya's letter below)  We are hoping to be back in the church on July 4th to celebrate our country's birthday as well to celebrate a new beginning for our worship.  We are also working on finding a way to also continue our Zoom services for those who cannot be with us in person.

I look forward to seeing you on Zoom this coming Sunday.
Peace and Love, Linda

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Good news!!

Last Monday night (March 15, 2021) at the session meeting your Property and Finance Committee brought for action a possible re-opening date for worship. The committee is suggesting Sunday, July 4th for the re-opening. What better way to celebrate the country's birthday than to re-open our church?

While it's easy to set a date for re-opening the actual process of doing so isn't quite so simple. There are supplies to be purchased and protocols to be set in place and voted upon by session for the protection of all. These protocols must be adhered to not only by you, the congregation, but by every group meeting on the premises as well. Fortunately, the State of New York Department of Health updated it's "Interim Guidance for Religious and Funeral Services" February 2, 2021 which is a helpful resource.

We can always hope they update again before July with some relaxation of processes. Stay tuned!

As your pastor I love being able to see everyone's face up close and personal as the saying goes. But I do look forward to greeting you face-to-face and being able to shake your hands (if possible in July; if not bumping elbows). In the meantime Linda Majowka has become our techie as she became quite proficient in the zoom department. Also coffee hour has not only become a time of sipping coffee but a time when we have listened to each other. It has especially been a time of learning for all of us. Technology has come to the head of the line in the what will we learn today department. Zoom, Skype, and whatever else there is out there, has made it possible for us to "go on" with our lives for the most part.

We have found that we are flexible (even the stick in the muds like yours truly) and that no matter the circumstances we will be ok.

Lastly, if you haven't already, when your time comes, get vaccinated. That will help in the process of cutting off this COVID snake's head. (Couldn't resist after last week's sermon.)

Shalom,
Pastor Glorya
