February 9, 2021

Dear Friends,

We're a month and a half into the new year and some things that were new are growing on us.  Then there are some old things we wish would go away…..like the pandemic.  There is one thing however, for which I always look forward to each year, our denominational offerings.

So hard to believe that next week Lent begins and our first offering comes to the forefront, One Great Hour of Sharing.  This week I received, along with others within the presbytery, the following email from Melonie Roney, Mission Specialist in the Mission Agency in Louisville:

"Dear faithful friends,

As 2021 begins, we look back, in gratitude, for the ways the Church has been faithful to its calling despite the incredible challenges of 2020.  We pray that your congregation is well and looking forward to a hopeful and helpful year.
Your congregation has been essential to the compassionate ministries with those experiencing hunger, poverty, disaster, and oppression, through One Great Hour of Sharing, and our shared ministry with children youth and young adults through the Pentecost Offering.  While many congregations were unable to participate in 2020, your support this year will be a powerful witness to who we are, as a Church, in response to the grace of Jesus Christ."

Melonie discusses only two of our denomination offerings.  The others are Peace and Global Witness (the former Peace Offering) and Christmas Joy.  Each of these offerings are our witness to the world not only here but abroad and Old South Haven has made a commitment to all four of these offerings.  Look at the first page of the budget.

As I mentioned One Great Hour of Sharing will be upon us.  Contributions to OGHS go all over the world to combat hunger and poverty, fund Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and Self Development of People.  Usually, we give children little boxes to throw their change into and bring to church when we dedicate offerings.  This year why don't you set aside your loose change and when the time comes, count it out and write a check to be included in OSH's contribution to OGHS.  You have a month and you might be surprised!

 Pastor Glorya
