This week at Old South Haven Churdh

This Week at Old South Haven                October 31, 2018

Members and Friends—

Tomorrow is All Saints' Day a day created to honor all the saints of the church even those long since forgotten. In the Reformed tradition our emphasis has been on the ongoing sanctification of all the people of God. We give thanks for the witness of both the well-known and the ordinary believers past, present and lives to come. We may especially remember those who, like Pastor Tom, whose baptism was complete in their death in the year past.

We would not be the church we are today without those who have gone on before us. Their faithfulness first and foremost to God as well as to this community of faith makes it possible for us to gather together and go forwards. May we be as faithful stewards as those we remember.
In Christ,

Pastor Karen

An invitation to special Shabbat service after Pittsburgh-- "The horrific bloodshed that took place in Pittsburgh this past Shabbat (Saturday) not only desecrated the sanctuary of Tree of Life Congregation, it defiled every synagogue and place of worship, as well. The sanctity of the Shabbat everywhere was broken. The lives of those who were in synagogue, the lives taken and the lives shaken by this unholy incident have been attacked by a senseless hatred, which we, as Jews, and all of us as citizens, know only too well. As a community we should respond by gathering together, sharing our thoughts, and praying together. We cannot be silent at a time like this. Our services this Shabbat, November 3, will be dedicated to those whose lives were lost as well as to the resilience that the Jewish community always has demonstrated during its darkest times. We have an ongoing responsibility as Jews and as citizens of a community to continue to strengthen our community and always reach out to those who are in need, and to all who come here for safety, support and a new life."
We invite you all to this special Shabbat (Saturday) service, which will begin at 11:30am.

Adult Book Study—The Faith Club: A Muslim, a Christian, a Jew—Three Women Search for Understanding by Ranya Idliby. "When an American Muslim woman befriends two other mothers, one Jewish and one Christian, they decide to educate their children about their respective religions. None of them guessed their regular meetings would provide life-changing answers and form bonds that would forever alter their struggles with prejudice, fear, and anger. Personal, powerful, and compelling, The Faith Club forces readers to face the tough questions about their own religions. Pioneering, timely, deeply thoughtful, and full of hope, The Faith Club's caring message will resonate with people of all faiths." I have one copy of the book left for purchase ($13.00) or you can get it on Kindle. Discussion on Sunday, November 11th at 4 pm. Even if you did not read the book I encourage you to come and join in the discussion.
