Re: Church work groups
Work groups from your churches may also register with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance at: pda.callcenter@pcusa.org
Importance guidance for regional long term recovery:
Remind folks in your congregation and community to register with FEMA if they sustained damage to homes or businesses. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will help those who sustained damage during Sandy with grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. To apply for disaster assistance, you can register on-line at FEMA’s web site (www.disasterassistance.gov) or call 1-800-621-FEMA from 7 am to 10 pm, seven days a week.
It is important to note that the cumulative regional damage registered with FEMA will also impact the amount of aid that will later come into the region for future infrastructure repair and restoration.
Presbytery Reconstruction Fund
The Presbytery is establishing a special Long Island Hurricane Sandy Reconstruction Fund to receive financial gifts that will be used in the future for local unmet needs after initial funding has been received from other agencies. Checks should be made payable to “The Presbytery of Long Island” and marked “Hurricane Reconstruction Fund” on the memo line.
