This Week At Old South Haven Presbyterian Church

Thursday, January 6                   Epiphany

This marks the end of the twelve days of Christmas. For many this is the day to take down the Christmas tree and other Christmas decorations. The celebration of Epiphany is in fact older than Christmas. Commonly observed as the arrival of the Wise men from the East, it celebrates the “manifestation” (epiphany) of Christ to the Gentiles. Originally the celebration , particularly in Eastern Christianity, focused  primarily on the Baptism of the Lord, and also on the miracle at the wedding at Cana.  The Church in Jerusalem celebrated the Birth of Christ on this date, January 6.

The Season of Epiphany is from this day until the day before Ash Wednesday.  During this period of time the Church’s focus and preaching is on the Life of Jesus being a revelation of God’s intent.  Jesus is presented as true God, Messiah, and Savior of the world.

Sunday, January 9   10:00 am   Morning Worship: The Baptism of the Lord
                                                  Sermon: “I Know I’m Beloved”
