Note: On July 21 Bobby Sterling had his bike stolen at the Post Morrow Marina. Many of his friends rallied to the cause and raised money to replace the bike, Newsday told the story on Thursday, Aug. 30. Bobby replied to the good gesture: "Everybody knows me and everybody cares about me. They're very kind. I appreciate them."

Note: Recent months have seen a flood of Central American unaccompanied children and mothers with children. This has been deemed a humanitarian crisis. As people of faith, we (the Presbyterian Church USA) are called to treat foreigners as God's people who are to be welcomed. Many of our churches along the border are doing just that by providing shelter, food and clothing. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, working with ecumenical partners, is working to provide financial support. If you care to contribute, mail a check to Presbyterian Church (USA) PO Box 643700, Pittsburgh, PA 15264-3700 or make a check out to Old South Haven and that amount will be forwarded. May these children and their families be treated with dignity and respect, and may their safety and protection be ensured.

This Week at Old South Haven Church

A note: Last week I attended the 50th Anniversary of the National Campus Ministry Association. As a member of the Coordinating Committee for NCMA (having just completed my term) I have had the assignment of contacting other former campus ministers, asking them to submit to me, and a team of two others, stories from their years as campus ministers. The stories have now been collected from 50 of them, serving twenty-five and more years. Their stories will be published in a book. This project convinced me how important it is to share our stories. It has let me also to prepare a series of sermons, which I hope to deliver over the next several weeks, on the theme of "Telling Our Stories."

Friday, July 4 INDEPENDENCE DAY
As we celebrate the birth of these United States may we find ways to renew our Nation's to its mandate: " with liberty, and justice for all". We need to acknowledge that even as we celebrate there are undocumented immigrants who are suffering the scorn of those who feel their presence here is unwanted. The Bible judges us as to how we treat "the sojourner" in our land. Pastor Tom
